Reishi mycelium, when grown in blocks, is stronger than stone, retains heat for insulation, and can become batteries. This organic substance with an unusual combination of properties is ideal for building.

Some very interesting facts about fungi. Not sure I would want to become a mushroom farmer on another planet.

If you combine [the seeding of planets with fungi] with time travel, you could devise some interesting stories. Imagine space-time corporations developing entire ecologies in the past for their exploitation in the present.

Something I didn't think about was if another lifeform was introduced into the environment that could feed upon and/or transform the fungi into different materials. Whole new ecosystems could be engineered using the fungi as foundations, so over a period of time the planet takes on a more Earthy look and feel (a much shorter time than in the natural progression).
